MSI GL63 8RE-455IN 2018

Gaming Powerhouse

Most people don't think of laptops as being well-suited for gaming. After all, they are often built with portability and efficiency in mind, and tend to use components that use as little power as possible. This is great for providing a portable computer that can be used for ordinary tasks, but the fact of the matter is that most laptops simply come up way short when it comes to gaming. The underpowered CPUs and graphics adapters included in most laptops usually don't hold up well to playing the latest high-end games.

The MSI GL63 8RE-455IN 2018 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop is one system that definitely breaks those underwhelming expectations of most laptops. This system features high-end components that help make this a portable gaming powerhouse. The 2.20 GHz Intel Core i7-8750H processor is capable of turbo boost speeds that bring it up to 4.1 GHz, giving you plenty of CPU power, and the NVIDIA GTX 1060 with 6 GB of RAM gives a great amount of graphics horsepower for running games at ultra settings without them skipping a beat or losing frames during the course of the action. In short, this high-end gaming laptop has enough power to put many desktop gaming systems to shame, giving you a great edge in performance.

Great for Streaming

Along with its high-end specs that are well-suited for gaming, this laptop includes plenty of features that make this a great portable gaming system. One of the best features included are separate ports for connecting headphones and a microphone, which will be especially useful for people who are planning to use a separate desktop microphone rather than having to rely on a headset. This is a great feature that caters to those who like streaming their gameplay while providing commentary on the game.

Other great features include the 16 GB of RAM included in the system, giving you plenty of memory for running video broadcasting software and a game at the same time. The system includes a 128 GB SSD drive, along with a 1 TB hard drive, giving you both fast storage for performance along with plenty of hard drive space for games, videos, and other data needs. The keyboard features a cool-looking pure colour backlight and lets you play games in a dark room without having to hunt for the proper keys, all while giving your system a cool look that will be the envy of your friends. All in all, this gaming laptop from MSI gives you a high-performance system that lets you play and stream your favourite games from anywhere you want.

Dell G Series G3 3579

Fast and Productive

Gaming laptops are usually not the sleekest machines out there. While they tend to be great for giving someone a good portable gaming system, many of the portability options seem to be lacking. In general, they tend to be much heavier and bulkier than non-gaming systems, and they also tend to suffer greatly when it comes to battery life. This shouldn't be a surprise, as having good gaming components will require them to be larger, but this can also put a hamper on its productivity. Not many people enjoy lugging a behemoth of a laptop around when they need to go to work.

The Dell G Series G3 3579 15.6-inch Gaming FHD Laptop is a great system that can give you the best of both worlds, in regards to gaming and productivity. This laptop features a compact and lightweight design that makes it much more portable than other gaming laptops, while still giving you the performance that you need for high-end gaming. The 15.6-inch IPS display helps to give this laptop a limited form factor, while the full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 lets your games look as clean and bright as on any desktop monitor. You are basically getting desktop-specced components built into a laptop case, which is what many gamers truly want in a portable gaming computer.

Review of Dell G Series G3 3579 15.6-inch Gaming FHD Laptop

High Powered Gaming

Despite the sleek appearance and lightweight design, this system is not lacking when it comes to the hardware that one needs for high-performance gaming. This system has a 2.2 GHz Intel i7-8750H processor at its heart, which provides turbo boost speeds up to 4.1 Ghz, giving you a great amount of power for gaming. This is coupled with the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti 4GB that lets you run games at high settings without losing framerate or overall performance. The 8 GB of DDR4 RAM gives plenty of memory for even the most demanding games, while the 128 GB SSD coupled with a 1 TB hard drive give you both speed and storage capacity, letting the system run at its fullest potential without sacrificing storage space.

Plenty of other great options are included in this laptop, such as the high-speed 802.11ac WiFi adapter, providing a fast and stable wireless connection, even if the Wi-fi router is quite far away. For those who prefer using a wired connection for their gaming, an RJ-45 Ethernet port is also included. If there is any kind of fault with this system, it would be the touchpad, which may seem a little loose and non-responsive, but this should be a non-issue for those who prefer to use an external mouse. Despite this small drawback, this system remains one of the premier gaming laptops on the market, giving you the best combination of style and performance.

Cool Running

Laptops aren't known for being the coolest devices out there, and by "coolest", we are referring to temperature. Most people who have used laptops extensively have run into issues with their laptop overheating. Unfortunately, this is quite a common problem with laptops, especially when they are used in a warm or hot environment, such as what we have here in India. Needless to say, cooling a laptop is quite important, which explains the booming market for laptop cooling stands.

Well, this particular laptop doesn't need a cooling stand. The ASUS ROG Strix GL503GE-EN169T 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop shows that laptops can be made to run powerful hardware, all the while remaining thermally efficient. This laptop achieves its cooling thanks to the presence of 2 x fans with a voltage of 12 V, which make it possible to achieve 20% higher rotational speeds, of the fans. This, along with the trapezoid-cut lid design ensures competent hot air output. The integrated Anti-Dust Cooling Technology reduces the ingress of dust, helping to prevent the need for internal cleaning. All of these things combine to help your laptop run as cool as possible, even when running under full CPU and CPU loads.

Review of ASUS ROG Strix GL503GE-EN169T 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop

Thin Design

ASUS has been known to create some of the thinnest and lightest laptops designs, and this model is no exception. This laptop has a small footprint and lightweight body, keeping it quite portable. In fact, its thinness more approaches that of ultrabooks rather than other high-powered gaming laptops. Speaking of which, this thin design is all the more impressive considering the hardware that is packed into this thing. The CPU is a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-8300H Processor with turbo-boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz. This, along with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics, make this system a blazingly fast game playing machine, so it is fast enough to keep most gamers happy.

Along with its fast CPU and GPU, the system comes with 8 GB of DDR4 2666 RAM, enough to get you going without needing an immediate RAM upgrade, with a 1TB 5400RPM Firecuda HDD with 128 GB PCIE SSD. As you'll notice, these specs are right in line with most of the other systems featured in this review, and this laptop has the performance to match. The 15.6-inch screen is one of the better quality screens we've seen on gaming laptops of this price range, and boasts a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. What's more, it has an ultrafast 120Hz refresh Rate and 3ms response time, coupled with 130 percent SRGB color gamut. Your games, videos, and anything else viewed on this laptop will look just as good, if not better, than most other systems in its price range.

Acer AN515-52

Desktop Quality Audio

If you were to ask most laptop owners what hardware seems to often be the least useful on their laptop, you will probably find that a majority of them would point out their laptop's speakers. This, of course, is with good reason, as most laptop speakers seem to be more of an afterthought rather than something that the hardware manufacturer pays special attention to. Most laptops, even those that are made specifically for gaming, tend to use cheap speakers with tinny sound that simply don't do justice to any games that are played on them. This is a sore point with many laptop owners.

The Acer AN515-52 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop Nitro 5 seems to be the exception to this rule. This laptop includes powerful speakers that have extra-large audio chambers so that you can enjoy clear surround sound. The Acer TrueHarmony™ technology offers an extended range of frequencies, so as not to miss a single sound, which plays a key role in stealth action games. In fact, virtually any and all audio that you play on this system will sound crystal clear with high quality, so you won't have to worry about connecting to external speakers or using high-quality headphones when you want to hear your system's audio.

Feels Like A Desktop

Along with the built-in high-quality speakers, there are other features of this laptop that will make it feel more like a desktop system. One of the primary ones is the full sized keyboard, which is fully backlit and gives you large keys that are more akin to a good quality desktop keyboard than to what you would normally find on a laptop. This helps give you great control in games of any type that require control from the keyboard, particularly with first-person shooters. The 15.6-inch IPS display is also of the best quality, sporting a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, along with a brightness of 300 nits, ensuring that your display will look great in any lighting conditions.

The rest of this system's hardware is certainly not to be outdone. The processor in this laptop is an Intel Core i7-8750H 9 MB SmartCache 2.20 GHz with a boost speed up to 4.1 GHz, giving your system blazing fast performance. The NVIDIA GTX Graphics 1050Ti with 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM is powerful enough to run almost any game in Ultra settings, giving this laptop a level of gaming performance that can rival many desktop systems. Along with the 128 GB SSD + 1TB HDD, your storage needs will also easily be met, making this one of the best gaming laptops that you can find.

ASUS FX504GD-E4021T

Budget Gaming Laptop

Gaming laptops are often pretty nice machines, but let's face it - they tend to be quite expensive. Laptops, as a rule, tend to be more expensive than desktops of the same performance, and this is almost doubly so when it comes to laptops that are made specifically for gaming. This isn't much of a surprise to anyone. Making such a high performing system in a small package is going to cost a lot of money, and many gamers are more than willing to pay a premium for such systems. However, this does leave out a segment of the market that simply can't afford these systems, leaving them with few options.

The ASUS FX504GD-E4021T 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop is one laptop that was made for budget gamers. This system is a modern laptop that is powerful enough to run games and perform various multimedia tasks, and works well for those with a limited budget. It is one of the best in its price segment and will withstand many hours of gaming sessions without any problems. Of course, there may be some concerns that this system has to sacrifice a good amount of power in order to meet its price point, but the sacrifices made with this system are quite limited, meaning that you get a full performance system for an affordable price.

Review of ASUS FX504GD-E4021T 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 8th Gen

Plenty Fast

This laptop has plenty of power included, despite its modest price. The system is powered by an Intel Core i7-8750H processor running at 2.2 GHz, with a turbo speed of 4.1 GHz, giving it enough processor speed to compete with many other more expensive models. The 8 GB of DDR4 RAM is about the same as other systems, and can be upgraded up to 32 GB RAM. The NVIDIA GTX Graphics 1050Ti has 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, letting this system run neck and neck with other more costly gaming laptops. If there is anything missing from this budget model, it would be the SSD that many other gaming laptops come with as standard, but it is an option upgrade here.

Plenty of other features are included in this system that make it perform well with most games. The built-in keyboard has increased durability in comparison to most other laptops. The work resource is 20 million key presses, meaning that you'll be hard-pressed to ever wear it out. And thanks to the smooth key running of just 1.8 mm, the game character will instantly react to your actions. Few laptops come with keyboards that are as durable or as responsive as this one. All in all, this budget gaming laptop includes plenty of power that will give you an edge in almost any game you play on it.

What Is a Gaming Laptop?

Everybody knows what a laptop is, but it's also quite true that most laptops are less performing than conventional PCs and that's the reason why many people prefer the latter to maximize their gaming experience. Several years ago the difference in performance between laptops and PCs was very big, but not today. The situation has become a lot better for mobile computers. A gaming laptop is a usual notebook that boasts the most cutting-edge and high-performing hardware which makes it fast enough to compete with PCs in running all kinds of video games. However, a gaming laptop is often heavier than a usual one and that's something you need to take into account.

If you still want to have a high-end PC at home and enjoy all of your favourite video games without any problems - check out our review of gaming PCs. Keep in mind that all further upgrades are much easier to carry out on gaming PCs.

What Features to Compare

There are many gaming laptop reviews online, yet making the right choice is quite difficult since most comparisons are too detailed and long, so a common person isn't patient enough to read. That's why we have decided to compare the most advanced gaming laptops by the most important criteria.

Performance

The first thing to take into account is the performance of the gaming laptop you're going to buy since it determines how long your laptop will remain good enough for modern games. There are several important issues that impact the performance and the CPU is certainly the most important one. The CPU, or central processing unit, is the brain of any computer and there are 2 major manufacturers: Intel and AMD. Intel is considered to be more performing than AMD and that's why most gaming laptops are equipped with one of the most up-to-date Intel CPUs - quad-core Core i5 or Core i7 models with the frequency of 2.4 GHz and more. Another crucial piece of hardware is the GPU or graphics processing unit which transforms a 2-digit code into a realistic image you see on the screen. There are 2 types of GPUs: integrated (they are built into CPUs) and discrete (the independent one which you can easily replace). Of course, most conventional laptops have just an integrated GPU but if your aim is playing video games - you must get a laptop with a discrete GPU. There are 2 main manufacturers of GPUs - NVIDIA and ATI (which is associated with AMD). NVIDIA graphics cards are usually considered to be better for laptops and that's why all of the devices we've picked in this review boast NVIDIA GPUs.

There's another important feature that impacts an overall performance of the laptop - RAM or random-access memory. It's responsible for short-term information retention and if you have a rather small RAM, your laptop won't be able to run all the games smoothly enough. RAM types are different - there are DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and even DDR4, but the newer one you get, the higher frequencies it will be able to support and the faster the data traffic will be. You need to choose a gaming laptop with at least 8 GB of RAM, though the more the better and the best laptops for games have as many as 16 GB.

Finally, check the capacity of the storage device and the technology used in it. For example, most simple laptops have hard disk drives (HDDs) which are quite affordable and have a huge capacity but they are relatively slow and somewhat outdated after solid-state drives (SSDs) have been invented. Of course, SSDs are much faster but more expensive than HDDs. That's why most gaming laptops have an SSD and an HDD. SSDs are used as system drives (Windows is installed on them), while all of your files are stored on HDDs.

Image Quality

Once you've decided on the previously mentioned features, consider the next one - the display, because the game is displayed on it. Therefore, you need to have a high-quality screen in order to enjoy the gaming experience. Game graphics has made a breathtaking progress within the last decade, so playing video games isn't only about killing some monsters, but also about admiring the graphics. So, begin with the screen size - most gaming laptops have a usual diagonal of 15.6 inches but if you want to feel as comfortable as possible while playing games - choose a larger screen (17.3 inches, for example).

Also, consider the resolution the screen provides. You can customize the settings before starting playing a video game and it's an advantage if your laptop supports one of the highest resolutions available. Most gaming laptops allow you to choose the resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (it's called Full HD). However, the best laptops for games can support a higher resolution.

In the end, check what technology is used in a display. All modern laptops have flat LED screens, but they are based on totally different technologies. The cheapest displays are based on the TN technology which has fairly poor viewing angles but boasts the excellent response time (1-5 ms), but gaming laptops belong to the upper class of computers and usually have displays based on the IPS technology which provides much more vivid colors and better viewing angles, but they're a bit slower - 5-8 ms. In general, the minimal response time of the screen for a gaming laptop has to be 10 ms.

Finally, you can't imagine a cutting-edge device without a touchscreen and most gaming laptops have it. It helps us a lot to use Windows, browse the websites, but it isn't a must-have feature for games.

Battery and Sound

The next step to make is to consider the battery. Any laptop is purchased for the sake of autonomous work without a necessity of plugging it into an outlet. And so the battery is important and you need to choose a laptop that provides a good battery life. Keep in mind that gaming laptops are very powerful and it means they consume a lot of energy, so no laptop for games is strong enough to ensure 10 hours of autonomous work. And yet, choose the one that provides no less than 5 hours of battery life - otherwise, you will need to have a power cord around.

Games aren't only about image and display, but also about sound, particularly if you like playing online. Present-day games allow you to even speak with other gamers and that's why the sound matters. And if a conventional laptop has just 2 simple speakers, gaming laptops are usually more 'charged' in terms of sound and boast high-end speakers and even a subwoofer. Surely, you can use the headset while playing video games.

Ergonomics and Design

At last, we've come to the last criteria to take into account - design and ergonomics. First of all, you need to choose the laptop by its appearance and material it's made from. Most laptops are made from plastic but the top-rated models have a metal casing (usually aluminium) which is better in terms of durability and cooling (keep in mind that a laptop has to have an efficient cooling system). The best and most expensive laptops for games boast a cutting-edge carbon casing which makes them really lightweight. However, if you choose a plastic model - it's good enough since fewer fingerprints and scratches are left on plastic.

And, of course, you need to check the keyboard - a crucial feature for any experienced gamer. A keyboard has to be convenient and that's why a lot of attention is paid to a keyboard layout by manufacturers. Although, only you can decide if a keyboard is comfortable. In the end, check the backlighting of the keyboard - most gamers like playing in the evening and at night, so a backlighting is important. The best gaming laptops allow you to even change the colour of backlighting.
